Arrogant or stupid

In Sweden, bribery scandals involving state and municipal officials who have allowed themselves to be bribed with money, trips, food and drink etc. by representatives from the private business world come to light every now and then.

I don't understand the reason for this risk taking. Could it be that these people have a long learning curve and therefore do not understand the enormous risk of sharing both images and text on social media? Or are they so blinded by their power and position that they don't see said risk? Regardless, I marvel at the lack of consequence analysis and self-preservation.

Apart from displaying these trips on various platforms, the person concerned usually has no idea about all the metadata contained in the pictures they are so happy to share. Life as a prosecutor must have been greatly facilitated.

It's like F. Scott Fitzgerald said, quote "First you take a drink, then the drink takes a drink, then the drink takes you" unquote. There are many people who have been taken by social media.
