I don't understand how my husband can stand the two of us

When my husband turned 39 and he asked if we weren't going to have a baby anyway and I agreed, I really didn't do the math.

For the next 13 years I was the center of his universe. It was me and him against the world. My husband had to fight for his attention and love. I got everything for free.

When the offspring hit puberty, which happened at the same time I hit menopause, my husband suddenly became the center of the offspring's universe and I had to keep up as best I could. Considering how amazingly everything is arranged in nature, it feels like a flaw that you should be able to have children who end up going through puberty at the same time that you yourself end up in menopause...

Last "shopping" of the month

Then the last acquisitions of the month have been made. We acquired a small number of Oxford Lane Capital Corp. (OXLC), PennantPark Floating Rate Capital Ltd. Common Stock (PFLT) and W. P. Carey Inc. REIT (WPC).

This is our last acquisition of OXLC. We have the number of shares that we have set as a target. Regarding PFLT and WPC, we have many shares left to acquire before we have reached our goal.

As August is our top 3 worst dividend month in 2023, there will not be many shares acquired in the next thirty days. Next comes September, which is our top four best month in 2023. With a bit of luck, September will be even better if the companies that have so far distributed special and supplemental dividends also do so this month.

You don't get what you pay for anymore, part two

Both hotels we stayed at in Portugal were 5-star, one of the hotels belonged to Small Leading Hotels of The World.

That such hotels have staff who do not understand English is beyond all criticism. I could be forgiving that they would have problems with mine and my husband's school English but they didn't even understand the offspring who have English as his first language and Swedish as his second language.

He speaks in his sleep in English and every time he gets stressed, he switches to English if he speaks Swedish.

I'm a bit picky about food and would like to remove certain ingredients, had to give up after day 2. To ensure that you got what you wanted, it was safest to point to the menu. On one occasion we had to wait over 2 hours for our food.

The golf courses were absolutely incredible though. Some days we were almost alone on champion courses.

You don't get what you pay for anymore, part one

For several years, we have promised the world's most perfect teenager a golf trip. Due to the pandemic, it took longer than we expected. We finally got away earlier this summer. We traveled to Portugal for 10 days.

Because several years have passed since we made the promise, we wanted to compensate him with a little extra luxury. We contacted a travel agency with our requests for flights and hotels.

We know from previous experience that SAS, Scandinavian Airlines System, rents out its aircraft and hires inferior aircraft to save money. Due to this, we stated to the travel agency that we only wanted to fly with TAP, Transportes Aéreos Portugueses.

When we boarded the plane in Stockholm, there were no logos at all on the aircraft. It turns out that TAP does exactly the same thing as SAS .We flew down with an airline carrier named Fly2Sky. If we wanted to fly with a low-cost flight, we would have booked it.

Next time we will fly BA, British Airways, although it will be a detour.

I'm not even close to the finish line

July will miss the target by over 10%. As we received neither special nor supplemental dividends during July, there is no air in my cushion to cover withholding tax, brokerage, exchange fees, DRIPS and exchange rate differences.

Since I did not adjust for this during previous years, I have to let this error remain in order to get correct statistics seen over the years.

7.29.2023

How to eliminate a problem

We have continued our golfing with the world's most perfect teenager throughout the whole week.

Even though I am improving my swing, number of strokes and ball hit, I have one thing that is my kryptonite, water hazards. It doesn't matter if it's 98 feet (30 meters) or 426 feet (130 meters), the ball (almost) always goes into the water.

The offspring and my husband are equally impressed every time by my "ability" to always end up in the water. I have decided to only play golf courses without water hazards in the future.

We are still on the right side of the percentage

Chief economists at various financial institutions are now beginning to question Sweden's central bank's, Riksbanken, aggressive monetary policy. "The experts" believe that Riksbanken should have been more patient, taken it more coolly and waited for the effect of each increase.

History of the Riksbank's increases
Current percentage    Date
1.75%                        September 21, 2022
2.5%                          November 30, 2022
3%                             February 15, 2023
3.5%                          May 3, 2023
3.75%                        June 5, 2023

Although expectations were low for Sweden's growth, the report the Swedish Central Bureau of Statistics left on Friday came as a cold shower. Sweden's GDP fell by 1.5% during the period April-June 2023 compared to the same period last year.

It is a considerably stronger fall than the 0.5% in the forecast from the financial service Blomberg. However, some experts believe that the GDP result will be corrected when the definitive figures for June are reported.

The sharp drop in the economy is a consequence of less economic activity and a sign that the higher interest rates are beginning to be felt properly by the Swedish borrowers.

Considering the large proportion of Swedish mortgage holders who today have fixed interest rates on their mortgages and must refinance their loans in October 2023, I hope that Riksbanken takes it coolly on September 21, 2023.

7.28.2023

They are not as good as they think

Swedish state media, called SVT, have problems with their credibility and objectivity. An organization where over 70% of employees have their sympathies to the left can't really help but be a little more forgiving "their own party". The majority of former employees testify to this.

For example, countless times it has "happened by chance" that is has been an active member from the Green party whom SVT has interviewed when it was actually meant to be "a random person on the street" to express the Swede's opinion.

Another example is how they report on the ongoing conflict between Israel and Palestine. They always start with Israel having killed 2 Palestinians to write further down in the news article that the 2 Palestinians shot at Israeli military.

Some problems cannot be bought out of

In Sweden, each student can choose which school they want to attend. In practice, this means that you have to queue for school at a very young age. When YMD was 43 days old, we put him in line for several schools.

Despite that, he didn't get a place on our first choice at the time. Additional factors to queue time are whether you already have children at the school in question and how close you live to the school. The offspring entered our second choice, which was then exchanged in grade 4 for the current school.

For each student the school has a sum of money is allocated from the government depending on the area in which the school is located. A report shows an example of a school in a so-called deprived area in Stockholm receiving $10,800 per student and academic year, while a school in a non-deprived area in Stockholm receives $6,900 per student and academic year. That is almost 44% more per student and academic year.

Despite these big investments and priorities, the majority of young people leave these schools with failing grades. Many of them cannot even read or count. Primary school, high school and university are paid for by Sweden's taxpayers. Which in practice means that all children have the same chance for education. In order to deal with these children and parents, you need to understand why they choose to completely ignore school.

Simply increasing funding for these areas will not improve school outcomes for these young people.

A new day, a new ATH... unfortunately

The portfolio has outperformed ATM every other day almost all week. Nearly the entire portfolio's increase in value consists of the weakening of the Swedish krona.

Every time the Swedish krona loses value, I am disturbed by the referendum we had in 2003 where the no-side won. I'm guessing that many who voted against a transition for the Euro are regretting it today considering how much poorer we Swedes have become compared to the outside world.

Considering how mismanaged Sweden is today, I wish we had action-oriented politicians with courage who dare to make tough decisions. Mainly regarding the criminality, but also our society where too many people live on benefits that the previous government, the Social Democrats together with the Green Party in combination with a silent partner in the form of the Left Party, created.

Winter's coming

The Swedish krona continues to weaken against the US dollar. The Swedish central bank, Riksbanken, will make its next monetary policy statement on September 21 this year.

Since almost all citizens in Sweden are affected by a change in the key interest rate, we should be grateful that Riksbanken is on a summer leave.

The Federal Reserve raised its key interest rate 25 basis points earlier this week. Given that Riksbanken is reacting, not acting, I assume that Sweden will receive an equally large key interest rate increase in September.

During October 2023, a very large proportion of Sweden's fixed-rate mortgage holders will refinance their mortgages. It will be a very costly autumn and winter for many.

On a staycation

Although I have always arranged for a substitute when I am on holiday, I am never totally free. Something always comes up that needs to be taken care of. This year there has been an unusual amount of work.

The older the offspring gets, the less he notices that I and sometimes his father need to work. At the moment, he is a classic teenager who does EVERYTHING to avoid his parents.

During the last few days, we have been around outside Stockholm and played on various golf courses. I feel like I've played more golf in the past week than I have in my entire life.

All the golfing has resulted in a very fun tan. I have white rings from my wedding rings on my left ring finger, the left hand has a light tan while the whole left arm is tanned. I'm not even going to mention feet and legs. I look like an unsexy version of Fifty Shades of Tan.

7.26.2023

August will be a busy month for us

In addition to a minor number of smaller dividends, we still have two large dividends left for July. They are OFS Credit Company, Inc. Common Stock (OCCI) and Rithm Capital Corp. Common Stock (RITM).

Next month is our third lowest dividend month of 2023. The remaining dividends for July correspond to 62% of the entire August expected dividends. Apart from the meager dividends, August is one of the best months of the year.

We are celebrating our 29th wedding anniversary on the same day that the world's most perfect teenager turns 16. On the same day that the offspring turns 16, he can start practice driving. The world's most perfect husband turns 56. In addition, the offspring must start high school (grade 10).

To see beyond oneself

A weak Swedish krona combined with a bullish stock market means that our portfolios reached ATH today.

The current situation means that we will wait a bit with further acquisitions right now and see what happens in the future.

The more the Swedish krona weakens, the higher our cash dividends will be. Although it is beneficial for us personally, a weaker Swedish krona is absolutely not something we wish for. You always have to look at the whole picture.

She's too nice for her own good

My parents have completely different approaches when it comes to investing money. Mom wants her money available so she has it all sitting in bank accounts without even interest income while Dad like us has his money sitting on the NYSE.

During the last weeks my father has received $2400 worth of dividends which he wanted help investing. My mother uses her money to lend it to loved ones, usually without getting it anything back.

She has a close relative who 3 years ago wanted to borrow $2000 for a short time. Instead of paying the debt, the relative continued to ask for more and more loans. By the time she informed dad and us the debt was up to $10000. Three years later, my mother has received half of it back.

7.25.2023

What do you not do for (to) your child?!

The world's most perfect husband is demonstrably much smarter than me because he chose to say "no thank you" to the world's most perfect teenager while I hear myself say "of course I'd love to play the 9-hole course with you too" right after we finished the 18-hole course.

So right after lunch Junior and I went out on the 9-hole course while the husband sat in the clubhouse. As we walked off towards hole 19, the offspring asks if I really am up to do this. The last thing I say is "I'll play 27 holes or die trying..."

7.22.2023

I'm so stupid I'm ashamed

I had to soothe my annoyance that the outcome does not exceed the forecast for our dividends. It turned out that I had forgotten to take into account the deduction for the foreign capital tax that every bank makes on every dividend.

Given that the US withholding tax is 15%, any deviation below 15% is a win. There are several special and supplemental dividends as well as some occasional increases in ordinary dividends that I have not adjusted for that may result in the full 2023 outcome exceeding the forecast after all.

They are completely shameless

For transparency and my own agenda, I strongly dislike our previous government, the Social Democrats with the support of the Green Party, who ruled Sweden for 8 years before the current government that came to power on October 18, 2022.

Literally speaking, not a single day goes by without shooting or blowing up in Sweden anymore. Often there are several shootings every day.

The previous government's concern and empathy was focused on the criminals. Dan Eliasson took office as Sweden's national chief of police on 1 January 2015 and resigned on 15 February 2018.

During an interview in 2016, then national chief of police Dan Eliasson speaks out about a 15-year-old youth stabbing a 22-year-old woman in the back who died as a result of her injuries. The perpetrator and the victim lived in the same asylum accommodation.

Quote "One naturally despairs on behalf of everyone involved, of course the person who is killed and her relatives, but also for a single young guy who commits such a terrible event, what has that person been through, what circumstances has that guy grown up under, what kind of trauma does he carry with him? This whole refugee crisis shows how unfair life is in many parts of the world, and we have to help and try to solve this to the best of our ability." unquote.

Sweden's current opposition consists of the same parties as the previous government which, among other things, appointed then national chief of police Dan Eliasson. Reading a tweet written yesterday where the Social Democrats' current party secretary Tobias Baudin demands that the current government do something about all the shootings becomes a bit like being in a parallel universe.

He was happy with his game

The biggest obstacle yesterday for the world's most perfect teenager was the weather.

His golf competition is played as a foursome. A form of play that my son is not comfortable with because his possible failures affect his playing partner.

YMD and his co-player are both 15 years old. Their opponents are 15 and 20 years old respectively. The offspring has the highest HCP of them all. Despite this, junior had the same number of strokes as his teammate whose HCP is only one fifth of YMD's when the competition was suspended due to thunder and rain.

In terms of points, they were only 1 point behind from their opponents from Finland. Mr Dewlar must have misread the dates as it turns out the offspring only plays 2 out of 3 competition days meaning today is a rest-day.

7.21.2023

We're not on the same page anymore 😂

Today is the first day of competition for YMD. I sincerely hope for his sake that he gets a good start in this competition which will last for three days.

The likelihood that he will be completely exhausted on Sunday evening is imminent. I remember how tired I was after playing a 3-day soccer tournament as a youngster. At the moment he is sleeping but we have promised to wake him up at 12 p.m.

We have always let him sleep. Our motto is "if he sleeps, he needs to sleep". When the offspring went to kindergarten, he was one of the few children who was allowed to sleep as much as he wanted. Other parents wanted their children to be woken up for the snack. Not because the children would eat, but because they would be tired in the evening.

We were only happy if we got some extra time with Junior in the evening. Now that he is a teenager and can literally sleep all day and night, we have to stop ourselves from waking him up. We still want to spend all our time with him. Unfortunately, it's not mutual anymore...

I miss magical

Last week, we and our best friends drove around southern Sweden for 5 days. It is the second year in a row that we travel together.

The difference between Stockholm and the countryside is much greater than you might think. As a resident of Stockholm, you are constantly surrounded by water because the city is made up of 14 islands linked by 57 bridges.

Walking along the water on a summer day in Stockholm is hard to beat, but walking along a beach by the sea is something else entirely.

Due to the pandemic, we have not been to Florida since 2019. Walking along the beach at Tylosand as I did last week was fantastic but not magical. The last time it was magical to walk along a beach was in 2019.

7.20.2023

I feel him

The world's most perfect teenager is about to play his first competition for his new golf club. Apparently this golf club competes with a equivalent golf club from Finland every year. This year the competition is played in Sweden.

There is much to be desired in terms of the offspring's competitive nerves, to say the least. To top it all, he will compete on Friday, Saturday AND Sunday. The only way for him to learn to deal with his competitive nerves is to compete.

It's eating me up inside

Yesterday's acquisition of Crescent Capital BDC, Inc. Common stock (CCAP) and Oxford Lane Capital Corp. Common Stock (OXLC) increased this year's expected dividends by $103.

The spreadsheet continues to work perfectly but something is wrong with the forecast for February, May, August and November.

I'm guessing that I entered too high a percentage on some/or some shares that distribute these months, but I won't know for sure until I take the time to compare the forecast with the outcome.

This will annoy me until I find and fix the error.

7.14.2023

June's results is in

Yesterday I received the payout regarding the Monroe Capital Corporation Common Stock (MRCC) June 30 dividend.

June's outcome became 3.99% better than the forecast indicated. More and more companies raise their dividends the further into 2023 we get.

Since the payout boosts are marginal and barely measurable (for us), I'll let them increase the air pressure in my  air cushion. Should any of the increases noticeably affect us, I will of course adjust for this in my spreadsheet.

7.13.2023

I miss him already

The world's most perfect teenager will spend 6 days together with my parents in their summer house. This will be the first time my parents spend more than 2 days in a row at their summer house. They have renovated the entire house from bottom to top over the last year.

This evening I got pictures from the driving range where they went for the second time today. Tomorrow he and my mother will play a round of golf at the island's local 18-hole course. I guess my parents will need a vacation after these days. My father, the workaholic, will commute between the island and Stockholm city every day.

Extra money

Cummins Inc. Common Stock (CMI) increases its dividend by 7% to $1.64 per share dividend. Our total holding in this company amounts to 5 shares.

Although in our case it only means a total of ¢55, I am grateful for all the pennies we get.

Right should be right

I was wrong, it is not the Swedish krona that strengthens but the American dollar that weakens. It may seem pretentious but right must be right.

Even if the result is the same, it is important to understand why the outcome is the way it is. Otherwise, there will most likely be an error in step 2, 3 or 4.

I'm trying to keep my chin up

Although we have received a number of dividends since acquiring W. P. Carey Inc. REIT (WPC), we will hold off on further purchases until the period's capital tax has been deducted from our accounts.

In recent days, the Swedish krona has strengthened against the US dollar. In the past week, the krona has strengthened by almost 7%. Yesterday's unexpectedly low inflation figures from America are likely a contributing factor.

It is a bit unfortunate that the capital tax has to be paid now. A correct spreadsheet and a strong Swedish krona is a good combination for acquisitions so having to forego purchases just to pay taxes is unfortunate. Can't claim that this increases my willingness to pay taxes.

New times, new ideas

I have called for measures other than raising the policy rate to strengthen the Swedish krona.

An analysis by Viktor Munkhammar in one of the Swedish financial newspapers, Dagens Industri, gave some thought to just that. Below is a brief summary of his analysis.

"Swedish long-term interest rates are among the lowest in the Western world. The low supply is probably the main reason, rather than the growth and inflation outlook diverging. Somewhat paradoxically, weaker government finances, via higher market interest rates, could be a way to strengthen the krona.

When inflation skyrocketed last year, the interest rate on Swedish 10-year government bonds rose from 0% to 2.4%.This year these bonds has been in the 1.9-2.8% range.Currently, these so-called benchmark bonds are traded at just over 2.6%.It is remarkable that investors in a situation where CPI inflation is closer to 10% do not require more than that to lend money over a 10-year period.

One observation is that there can be a strong belief that the period of high inflation is temporary because otherwise you lock in large losses at such a low interest rate.

Another reflection could be that it is considered that the interest rate is not in phase with the expectations on the Swedish financial market, that is to say that the concern for a possible financial crisis on the Swedish real estate market is exaggerated.

Yet another thing to note is that Swedish long-term interest rates are lower compared to similar countries, they are even equal to Germany, which is Europe's economic anchor.

There are several theories as to why Sweden has a higher inflation rate than the countries used in the comparison, apart from the UK, such low borrowing costs. The main explanation that several both analysts and economists endorse is a "material shortage", aka known as the law of supply and demand. In this case a low supply of Swedish government securities equals a higher price.

The reason for this low supply is that the Swedish central bank has just started to sell off its holdings of Swedish government securities, which amount to just over $25 billion. The decision to sell was made in February 2023 and the reason is to normalize the balance sheet according to Swedish central bank governor Erik Thedéen.

The Swedish central bank intends to accelerate the pace of sales. However, this will probably only affect market interest rates marginally as the amounts are too small.

The solution can be found at the Ministry of Finance. Since the outbreak of the pandemic, government finances have developed better than expected, and for the first time since May 1992, Sweden's national debt was lower than $85 billion.

The so-called Maastrich debt, where the public sector's total debts are added together, amounts to 30%, which is half of Germany's. This provides a large scope for increased indebtedness, which in turn results in an increased supply of government bonds. Such a procedure would be directly inappropriate and also completely contrary to the fiscal policy framework which contains a debt anchor of 35% of GDP. With inflation being one of the finance minister's bigger concerns right now, she will most certainly hold back as long as prices continue to rise too quickly.

It is still uncertain when inflation will moderate but hopefully in the near future. Then there would be room for a more aggressive fiscal policy. Paradoxically, such a measure could possibly strengthen the Swedish krona. Higher interest rates provide a better return on Swedish assets and a greater range of Swedish government securities provides better liquidity. That such a procedure weakens the government's finances and thereby results in a stronger currency goes against most economic models and intuition."

A true story

My mother, father and the sunblock were born in the 1940s.

During their upbringing, using sunscreen was almost unthinkable. Instead, they were told to go out in the sun and get some color on their bodies.

After much nagging from us kids, my parents have been using sunblock for the past 20 years.

A number of years ago we were all in Thailand on holiday. My dad applied sunscreen several times a day to avoid burning himself. On the third day, I overheard my father complaining to my mother that the sun protection she bought was useless because he just kept getting redder and redder.

I was curious about what factor their sunscreen had so I read the bottle. It turned out that he had taken the wrong bottle and had smeared himself with after sun the whole time. He turned redder than a boiled lobster.

Let's hope for the best

I sincerely hope that both Turkey and Hungary ratify Sweden's NATO application within the next few days.

Nothing is done until all the documents are signed. Therefore, I will not celebrate today.

I will, however, commemorate the strengthening of the Swedish krona against the U.S. dollar today due to yesterday's verbal acceptance by Turkey of Sweden's NATO application.

Happy🎵, happy, happy, happy🎵🎵

Today is a good day. All the tests I've done show that my Google Sheet spreadsheet is completely correct now.

Apart from the obvious that the spreadsheet shows upcoming dividends, newly added dividends due to new acquisitions also exactly which month/months the newly added dividends begin to be paid out.

For example, the acquisition of W. P. Carey Inc. REIT (WPC) made yesterday will give us our first dividend during October.

7.10.2023

All additions are welcome

PennantPark Floating Rate Capital Ltd. Common Stock (PFLT) raised its dividend this month. The increase is ¢0.25 per share. Any increase in the ordinary dividend and/or any additional dividend is always gratifying, no matter how small the amount.

If all the numbers are correct, the current month will be the 5th best dividend month of the year. It is already established that February will be the most unfavorable month of the year. Which one will be the best remains to be seen. Currently, June is the best month of the year.

I have to pull myself together and let go

Today we acquired a small number of shares in W. P. Carey Inc. REIT (WPC). Unfortunately, it will be until October 2023 before this investment starts paying dividends.

After the latest adjustment, my spreadsheet now shows the correct dividend amount for the current months. It will only be at the next acquisition, which will hopefully happen within the next 10 days, that it will be seen if the Google Sheet is correct or if it was just a coincidence.

Today's purchase will generate a total of $53 in the remaining months of 2023 to our portfolios. There is still a long way to go to fill the deficit that NEWT caused in 04/03/2023. I don't think we will have time to repair the damage before the turn of the year, which means that the forecast for 2024 will be lower than 2023.

NEWT's damage to our portfolio has proven to be a bitter pill to swallow for me.

7.09.2023

I'm sitting on the sofa and ache almost everywhere

Our wish when the world's most perfect teenager was born was that he would play golf since it is an activity you can do together even with a large age range between you and the opponent.

YMD started "playing" golf before he was 4 years old. He has always had several sports going on at the same time.

There were a few years when he wanted to stop playing golf. At that time he was playing golf and practicing teakwondo. We think it is important that he practice at least one sport, he got to choose which sport he would continue with. He chose golf.

Nowadays, it's close to the opposite. We almost have to limit his playing. Today I, junior and his grandmother played a round of golf, an 18-hole meadow course.

Stupidly, we didn't rent a golf cart, instead we carried our golf bags. Now he wants to play again tomorrow but thankfully I can blame it on having to work.

Me writing this might jinx everything…

In recent days, the Swedish krona has improved its value against the US dollar, albeit marginally.

If this small strengthening of the krona holds through early next week, we will most likely acquire a smaller number of W. P. Carey Inc. REIT (WPC) shortly.

Our outcome was 3.85% better than the forecast for June. I had expected a roughly 10% better outcome, but this was demolished by NEWT, which has chosen to change its schedule for the dividends compared to previous years. Instead, July will be a better month.

I have changed my spreadsheet for NEWT's announced payout days but I'm sure I'll be making more changes. This adjustment should mean that the graph where I did not make any adjustments, the outcome for July should be significantly better than the forecast.

It is my air cushion in the form of special and supplemental dividends which during June accounted for the entire surplus.

My hope for the chart where I don't adjust for changes and/or corrections during the year was high on January 1st 2023. I thought the outcome would exceed the forecast in the last eleven months of the year.

Now I hope July, October and November will do it. If that is the case then the spreadsheet is completely fair now, except for NEWT's last 2 dividends.

My background

For full transparency, I am politically very far from the Swedish Social Democrats and socialism.

I was born into a family with a father who worked 7 days a week all my growing up to support my mother, my two sisters and myself. My mother was a stay at home mom until I, the oldest child, turned 17, at which point she was genuinely tired of spending her days alone waiting for us three children to come home only to be fed and then disappear again.

My 77 year old father still works but only 6 days a week while my 75 year old mother works 4 days a week. Although my parents have always worked in their own companies and are thus entrepreneurs, I have grown up in a working-class environment. It took many years before they had a stable economy.

Mom has told me that my grandmother mailed us food every Thursday for several years so that our food would last the whole week. Both my father and mother were very careful that none of us three children would notice how poor it was, and we didn't.

The only thing missing was all the trips abroad that our friends made. I was 14 years old the first time we traveled by plane. One would think that such an environment would raise socialist children and adults.

Neither my mother nor my father is a socialist and it would be a lie to say that I was not influenced to some degree by this.

I was 19 years old when I got my first job at an accounting firm where I helped smaller companies with their accounting. It was then that I understood for the first time how much tax is actually paid in Sweden.

I know that my parents are no exception, but there are lots of people who work and struggle just as much as them. That's why I get extremely angry and disappointed every time I'm in any way informed about how politicians waste tax money because I know how much work, toil and sacrifice is behind every penny.

A normal day as a Nordea customer

Nordea must have called in its entire IT department yesterday because today all holdings were restored. Nordea had even paid out our dividend for NXLT, however MRCC is still missing.

What puzzles me is that such a large bank as Nordea still has such incredible IT problems. None of my other banks, both large banks and internet banks, have ever not shown my savings and/or holdings.

Since this is something that happens irregularly regularly at Nordea, I don't even worry anymore. On the other hand, I feel for all the customers at Nordea who encounter this for the first time. It took me several times before I got used to it.

7.08.2023

This ain't my first rodeo

This morning I logged into Nordea hoping that they had found the error with our missing dividends regarding MRCC and NXLT.

Sadly, the message button was missing the little red number that indicates how many unread messages you have. Instead I chose to click on the button for savings and investments.

All three of my endowment insurances were completely blank, everything was at 0! Not a single stock or cent was displayed.

As this has been an ongoing issue since 2018, I logged out of the app and ate breakfast instead.

Tomayto, Tomahto

In Sweden, it is the companies that handle the value added tax for the government. That is, the companies add 25% to their goods and services. Each month, companies compile how much VAT they have added on their goods and services and then subtract all the VAT they paid during the same month.

Every month, as an employer, I have to report and pay both employer's fees and withheld income tax on my employees. In connection with this, you also pay the value added tax for the previous month.

I don't know why it's called employers' fee when it's really just another tax.

I know I'm not the only one

We have a maid who comes on Fridays every other week. The days before she's due I'm busy. Everything that is not in its place, such as excess shoes, jackets, caps, etc., is taken away. Laptops, iPads, iPods are also put away.

Yesterday morning I got up at 4:50am to do the last thing before she arrived. For example, at 7am I was at the recycling center to drop off all our empty beer and soda cans. She comes around 10am.

Not only because I don't want to show how messy our home can be, but mainly out of respect for her work. She is hired to clean the home, not pick up after us. There is one more variable in this equation, if she puts away our things, I won't know where they are when my guys look for them.

I know I'm not the only one who does this, I have both friends and acquaintances who do the exact same thing.

I root for the Bioarctic

My mother's father suffered from Alzheimer's at an early age, he was only 52 years old when the first symptoms appeared. After that it went downhill fast.

Before my 10th birthday I had "lost" my grandfather and really only a shell remained. My mother and grandmother suffered an incredible amount during my grandfather's last 20 years.

I sincerely hope that the Swedish pharmaceutical company Bioarctic's new drug Lecanemab, which has just been approved by the FDA in America, will be or become the game changer that cures or eradicates Alzheimer's.

Professional pride no longer exists

We are still missing 2 dividends from the month of June. In total it is about 14$.

The dividends we are missing are Monroe Capital Corporation Common Stock (MRCC) and NexPoint Residential Trust, Inc. Common Stock (NXRT). It has been more than 1 week since we should have had the money.

I contacted Nordea today and almost had to apologize for bothering them with this matter. The bank clerk who answered promised to call me back during the day regardless if she had any information. Now it's evening and she still hasn't called back.

In best case, Nordea pays out our dividends during the beginning of the next week. In worst case, I have to contact Nordea again.

New way of thinking

The dollar exchange rate has always influenced our acquisition decisions. Our thinking has always been that it is the dollar that is strong compared to the Swedish krona. We have now come to the realization that it is not the dollar that is strong but the Swedish krona that is weak.

This puts everything in a new light. Now we have to implement a new way of thinking, which is not easy when you are as old as the dinosaurs.

We usually always reinvest our dividends before they are barely even paid out haven't made any new acquisitions these last weeks. As a dividend investor, I am keen to put the money to work, but not at any cost.

Working from home

My husband and I do not have the same preferences when it comes to household chores. What he detests, I put up with and vice versa. Personally, I can't stand cooking.

I never cook, if my husband is away I order take away or eat snacks instead. This strategy worked just fine before we had our child. Apparently, children need to eat food and at regular times. The times I've had to cook for myself and Junior, it's almost always ended in a minor disaster.

Today I worked from home and was supposed to arrange a light lunch for the offspring. I served tea and sandwiches. I didn't even get to sit down before the best teenager in the world had devoured his sandwiches and wanted more.

It would have been easier as a job seeker with no work experience to succeed in getting a job where the main requirement is that work experience is required than getting junior full. My husband has cooked 2 dinners for him since he got home. Although he eats like a horse, he is as thin as a stick.

They have an overwhelming task ahead of them

It is exactly one week since the Swedish central bank's latest increase in the key interest rate, the purpose of which was to defend the Swedish krona.

Since then, the Swedish krona has further lost value against both the € and the $. All our holdings are listed in North America. The slightest drop or rise in the Swedish krona is immediately noticeable because it affects our entire holdings.

While it's a treat to see the portfolio hitting new ATHs all the time, it's a negative in so many ways. As a resident of Sweden, it is sad that the Swedish krona is being slaughtered. Apparently, the Swedish krona is considered to have elements of junk currency.

Having a weak domestic currency that is considered a junk currency poses several dangers. First, residents in Sweden are becoming poorer compared to mainly Americans and residents in the EMU area. Secondly, Swedish companies are easier targets for both friendly and hostile takeovers. Finally, we import inflation into a situation when inflation is already high.

So far, the Swedish central bank's latest increase has had the opposite intended effect. Instead, this increase becomes just one factor that contributes to increasing inflation. The reason for the market's response to the actions of the Swedish central bank is previous poor leadership for many years, which has seriously damaged the bank's credibility.

Banknotes on legs

I try to go for a 7K walk almost every weekday before the work day starts. I enjoy walking in Stockholm's city centre.

Stockholm consists of 14 islands linked by 57 bridges. The guest port for the international cruise ships is located almost right in the center of Stockholm. This morning I and my mother noticed two cruise ships that had recently arrived.

Before the pandemic, there was pretty much a new cruise ship every week. This year there are significantly fewer of them, but they are at least back. My mother and I have different views on cruise ships crew and passengers. She sees people visiting our beautiful capital, I myself see $100 bills on legs.

Close but not close enough

Halfway into 2023, I think the end result will be good. Overall, this will be our 4th best dividend year. I was hoping for a 3rd place, but that is unfortunately impossible.

I'm happy after all

The chart where I have taken into account purchases, changed dividends and possible sales is almost correct. Over the next year, I hope that the bars (forecast vs outcome) in this chart will be exactly the same height every month throughout the year.

In the chart where I make no adjustments at all during the year of buys, sells or changing dividends, the forecast bar should be lower than the outcome bar each month, provided everything is normal. NEWT's reduced dividend plus a number of minor errors in my spreadsheet meant that nothing could be considered normal in that chart this year. Next year, I hope that the outcome will be higher than the forecast for all months.

The sum of all vices is constant
