For better or worse

The near-global recession underway will claim casualties. As revenues and profits decline, CEOs, CFOs and owners around the world will cut off funding to companies that haven't generated a profit in years.

An acquaintance of ours works at such a company. The company has only had growth as a goal and has not delivered a profit in just over 10 years. Instead, the owners have made new issues on a continuous basis.

Sometimes it's good to separate the wheat from the chaff, but at the same time, the world can lose innovative startups that need a little help along the way.

The line between clearing the market of weak companies and the risk of losing innovative start-ups is fine.
