Oh, the drama

When you and your friends have kids, impromptu dinner parties with more than two couples are rarer. Since we "only" have one child, we have always been very flexible and continued to invite to various events and dinners and never turned down an invitation. Now most of the children have become young adults, except for the world's most perfect offspring who is still a teenager.

In all these years when the children have grown up, we are three families who have continued to hang out almost as often as before, unlike a fourth family who withdrew and only hung out with each of our families in pairs.

The day before yesterday our best friends invited us and the other family to dinner and we all gladly accepted. Yesterday, the fourth family sent all three of us an invitation for the first time in seven years to a crayfish party. For the same day as the previous invitation.

Her husband is a major drama queen. Despite the fact that they have on several previous occasions only invited two of the three of us, he would call our respective spouses and ask why they weren't invited to this dinner. So to avoid any drama it was decided yesterday, after a conference call, that we would all go on the crayfish party and not mention the previous dinner invitation.

It felt like we were back in middle school...
