The apple does fall far the tree

Sometimes I tell my spouse that I got him for my sins. Can it also apply to one's parents? I have been helping my father with his investments for several years. Today, out of the blue, he mentions that he has a large amount of money in an interest-free account.

When I ask why he hasn't mentioned this before, I get the answer quote "didn't think of it" unquote. I would understand him if the investments I made went bad, but they have gone well. Some really good even. It's easier to have a teenage son than parents in their seventies...
