Most recently, it is a professor of political science who questions if Riksbanken should continue to be entrusted with independence when Riksbanken has for many years completely failed in its mission, to defend the Swedish krona and counteract inflation.
Since 1999, the Swedish krona has lost 33% in value against the Euro. The consequence is that Sweden gets higher inflation compared to other European countries as we import a lot from the rest of Europe. Simply put, we are importing additional inflation thanks to our weak currency.
Riksbanken cannot explain why they have failed to defend the Swedish krona or how they will be able to reverse the trend. A central bank which, according to its own statement, lacks assured knowledge of how to solve its tasks should be stripped of its independence.
