Understanding vs knowing

It looks like the American man will be proven right. The formerly well-reputed giant company, which previously had a monumental trust, is now beginning to crumble. With three accidents within a very short time frame, they have serious problems. Fortunately, none of the accidents involved fatalities.

The American insurance adjuster appears to be correct except that the time frame is shorter than he thought. He guessed 8-10 years but unless management really understands and doesn't just know the gigantic problems they have because of their value-based recruitments, I'm guessing the time frame is shorter.

There is a huge difference between knowing and understanding.
