The Green Party makes it impossible for us to do the right thing

In Sweden, we have a reduction obligation. The reduction obligation is a law that forces companies that sell petrol and diesel to reduce emissions of greenhouse gases.

In practice, this means that in southern Africa, investment in land to grow export crops that are mixed into our fuels to reduce our emissions has resulted in the loss of land and livelihoods for thousands of small-scale farmers.

As I now drive an electric car, I contribute to the fact that children in the Congo live in terrible conditions when they dig out the cobalt needed for car batteries.

While people who drive petrol or diesel cars contribute to whole families starving to death as they have lost their land and thus livelihood.

Thankfully, the reduction obligation is now being questioned. Africa's need for food should not have to compete with our willingness to pay for fuel just because the Green Party decided that our emissions should be reduced at any price. Sweden's share of global emissions is 0.2 percent.
