As recently as May 2022, our previous government decided to raise the normal retirement age from 65 to 66. The reason for this was to prevent pensions from becoming lower in line with the increasing average life expectancy.
At the beginning of February this year, the Social Democrats chose to come up with a proposal for shorter working hours with maintained pay, similar to a model found in the Netherlands. How this will be financed is unclear.
That the Social Democrats as late as May 2022 after almost 8 years in government needed to raise the retirement age to barely 2 years later in opposition means that the economy has improved so significantly that this proposal can be put forward can be interpreted in different ways.
