How could they let it go this far?

I grew up in a suburb of Stockholm, living in a villa.

Part of this suburb is today classified as an exposed area which means quote "geographically delimited places of low socio-economic status and where the criminals have an impact on the local community" unquote.

For most of my growing up, we never locked the front doors to the house, the car was in the driveway with the keys on the sun visor, and our bikes were unlocked in the driveway. When my parents eventually started locking the front doors in the evenings in the late 1990s, it wasn't because of crime, but because one of their neighbors was unabashed and could suddenly be standing in our living room at 9:30 p.m.

Now I live in the "finest" part of Stockholm city, but the front door is always locked and the last thing we do every night before going to bed is to activate the perimeter protection.

Our part of Stockholm has had problems with robbers who dress up as couriers and ring the doorbell. Therefore, the world's most perfect teenager still has clear instructions to NEVER open the front door when the doorbell rings, even if it's been a long time since the last robbery.

A couple of years ago, a prosperous suburb of Stockholm, Nacka municipality, had terrible problems with robberies against children. The robbers, who were only teenagers themselves, robbed other children of their clothes and often also abused and videotaped the incidents.

The robbers even had a name for these areas, they called it "the pantry". If they needed a new jacket, phone etcetra, they went to "the pantry". In the end, mounted police were deployed. Today is better but not like before. I always "dress down our son" so that he does not attract unwanted attention.

There are few things that make me as angry as robbery and violence against children and the elderly.
