On October 27, 2023, IF Metall announced that they will go on strike against Tesla Motor Sweden AB (TM) unless Tesla signs a voluntary collective agreement with them.
Since then, the strike has expanded to include many other trade unions such as the Transport Industry Confederation, SEKO Trade Union, Denmark's largest union and Norway's largest union.
So far, TM has solved the various problems they faced and it is "business as usual" at TM. IF Metall, for its part, instead suffered many setbacks.
One of their member companies, Hydro Extrusion Sweden AB, with a voluntary collective agreement has had to let staff go since they were taken out on a sympathy strike.
Even one of Sweden's former prime ministers and also former party leader of the Swedish Social Democrats, Stefan Loven, has lost his credibility in this strike.
The latest in this farce is that one of IF Metall's departments, Vastbo-Ostbo, rents premises from a landlord, Nyfora Fastigheter, who does not have a voluntary collective agreement. IF Metall has rented premises from Nyfosa Fastigheter for many years. After this was discovered, IF Metall must have terminated the lease.
A serious trade union had, before signing a lease, checked that there was a voluntary collective agreement. Afterwards, it is insignificant, both financially and credibly.
