I have also paid for nothing

The world's most perfect husband has discovered a zone that has deflation as opposed to the inflation that has hit pretty much the entire world. He has been playing a certain computer game for 10 years. Before the pandemic, the most affordable in-app purchase in his computer game cost about $24, compared to about $18 today.

An in-app purchase is almost the same as buying air. I understand that an in-app purchase entitles you to use a feature in a program, but it's not something you can wear or even feel.

I'm also aware that there are individual skins, avatars etc that can be worth significantly more than what you paid, but for the vast majority of purchases aren't worth a red cent. Unlike, for example, a shirt, trousers, jewelry, watch, etc., which almost always have a second-hand value.
