It would have been fun

Two brothers from Russia were convicted in January 2023 of espionage against Sweden. The older brother was sentenced to life imprisonment while the younger brother was sentenced to 9 years in prison.

It has emerged that the younger brother has received compensation from the Russian intelligence service GRU. Today it was discovered that the Swedish Tax Agency has taxed the younger brother for this fee and also added penalties for withholding income. The fee/income is approximately $45,300. Usually the penalty is twice the original amount but I don't know for sure.

A ballsy move would have been if the Swedish tax authorities had charged the Russian embassy in Sweden for employer contributions, which corresponds to 14,200 dollars.
